Interactive Video Panorama of Haiti

CNN and a company called Immersive Media have created a 360 degree interactive panoramic video of Haiti. It’s like you’re holding the camera and can spin in any direction as the guy walks around. An incredible way to experience a place.

Use your mouse to click and drag around the video to change the view. You can also zoom in and out. Pause and explore at any time by pressing the play/pause button under the video to stop and look around. The video below was shot on Sunday, January 17, at 3:53 p.m.

I texted donations to Red Cross and Yele last week before reading about all the confusing politics behind donations. I don’t regret it but I wish I had seen this first!

If a charity is worth supporting, then it’s worth supporting with unrestricted funds. Because the last thing anybody wants to see in a couple of years’ time is an unseemly tussle over what happened to today’s Haiti donations, even as other international tragedies receive much less public attention.

Interesting and persuasive point made by Felix about doing your research about exactly how you are donating. As someone who almost immediately texted in $15 this freaked me out.

I know I should’ve done my research but I wish the fastest, easiest, and most publicized way to micro-donate was less dubious. Anyways, I still think the texting thing is brilliant and I’m of the opinion that anything helps.
